Al Dar Optics operates this website and our optical branches across Qatar. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" refer to Al Dar Optics. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data described below.

We collect the following categories of personal data:

• Identity and contact data - name, email address, mobile number, delivery and billing address.
• Order data - products purchased, order value, payment method and transaction reference. We do not store full card numbers; payments are processed by our payment provider.
• Account data - login credentials, saved addresses, wishlist and order history.
• Prescription and eye-care data - see section 3 below.
• Appointment data - branch, date, time and reason for your eye test booking.
• Technical data - IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, and referring site.

To dispense spectacles and contact lenses we need your optical prescription - including sphere, cylinder, axis, addition, pupillary distance, base curve and diameter - and, where relevant, notes from your eye test.

We treat this as sensitive health information. It is:

• collected only where you provide it to us or where it is generated during an eye test you have booked;
• accessed only by qualified optometrists and dispensing staff who need it to serve you;
• never sold, and never used for advertising or profiling;
• retained in line with the clinical record-keeping periods set out in section 8.

You may ask us to delete your stored prescription at any time, though we may be required to keep a clinical record for a defined period.

We use your personal data to:

• process, fulfil and deliver your orders, and handle returns and exchanges;
• dispense lenses correctly against your prescription;
• book, confirm and remind you about eye tests and fittings;
• provide customer support and respond to enquiries;
• manage your account and saved preferences;
• detect and prevent fraud and misuse of the site;
• meet our legal, tax and regulatory obligations in Qatar;
• send you marketing about products, offers and eye-care information - only where you have opted in.

We process personal data on the following bases:

• Performance of a contract - to fulfil an order or booking you have placed.
• Consent - for marketing communications, non-essential cookies, and the processing of prescription and health data. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation - to comply with Qatari tax, consumer protection and health-record requirements.
• Legitimate interests - to secure our site, prevent fraud and improve our services, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.

We share personal data only with:

• Payment providers - to authorise and settle your payment.
• Delivery partners - name, address and phone number, so your order can be delivered.
• Technology providers - our ecommerce platform, hosting, email and analytics providers, acting on our instructions.
• Professional advisers and authorities - where required by Qatari law or to establish or defend legal claims.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share prescription or health data with advertising partners.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your cart, measure how the site is used, and - with your consent - to personalise offers.

Essential cookies are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off. You can refuse or delete other cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as intended.

We keep personal data only as long as necessary:

• Order and invoice records - for the period required by Qatari tax and commercial law.
• Account data - until you ask us to close your account.
• Prescription and clinical records - for the period required for optometric record-keeping, after which they are securely deleted.
• Marketing consent records - until you unsubscribe, plus a short period to evidence the withdrawal.

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls limiting prescription data to clinical and dispensing staff, and secure hosting through our ecommerce platform.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. If a breach affecting your rights occurs, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

Under Qatar's Law No. 13 of 2016 concerning Personal Data Privacy Protection, you have the right to:

• be informed about how your data is used;
• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• request erasure of your data, subject to our legal retention duties;
• object to processing, including direct marketing;
• withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We will respond within the period required by law. You may also complain to the competent Qatari data protection authority.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 without the involvement of a parent or guardian. Eye tests and lens dispensing for minors are arranged through a parent or guardian, who provides and controls the relevant data.

Some of our technology providers store data on servers outside Qatar. Where data is transferred abroad, we take steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with Qatari law, including contractual safeguards with our providers.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be communicated on this website, and where required, by email.
